While some people may not know, is that my family is from Hong Kong. Imagine my shock in 2019, when I had the opportunity to choose a location where I could immerse in the culture and work in a building. I went back-and-forth on it for several weeks and chose my “homeland” a few weeks before the rallies started in the city.
I was assigned to Taikoo Place, one of ten locations in the city. There I was, alongside working with a superstar team, Yen Ma, Edmund Chan, and Janifer Chung.
I had such a wonderful time practicing my Cantonese and Mandarin (thank goodness for Google Translate as one of browser tabs and meeting members at the front desk and events.
On the second night, all Hong Kong locations had a bread exchange where we all visited different bakery locations to pick up bread.
WeWork HongKong Team have collected a total of 346 pieces of bread for the groups, and together we were able to rescue 1179 pieces of bread from 58 stores around Hong Kong. The bread was delivered to 7 local charities to fight against hunger and food waste.
On my final day, I was able to visit other locations in the city to meet their community teams.
After the trek to 3 locations, I was able to pick up two other cultural exchange peers to come with me to explore the next, Aman Saini from India and Shirley Shi from Beijing.
At the very last one, three of us sat down in the common area and exchanged best practices.
Tower 535: Beautiful headquarters where I picked up Shirley.
Wanchai where we picked up Aman.
Bonham Strand (Last destination where it took us an hour to find and since I was the only person in the group who knew struggling Cantonese, it was an amazing feat to find it.)
I was incredibly lucky to also add a stop to Chiangmai, Thailand where we were able to ride elephant, eat and cook delicious cuisine, and take a photoshoot with our WeWork totes.
